Project 8. Submissions Preprocessing
- Goal
- The goal of this project is to improve the quality of public submissions that are accepted, and thus make the task of editors easier, more efficient, and more fun. To achieve this goal, this project will aim to (1) continue development of existing submission preprocessing, (2) monitor filtering performance (3) provide methods for automated and manual deletion of spam submissions, and (4) keep the blocklist continually up-to-date.

- Responsibilities of Project Leader
- Maintain the submission preprocessing software.
- Implement periodic (weekly or daily) summary reports to be made available to all editors which show submission trends.
- Serve as a consultant for technical matters regarding the web interface.
- Prepare quarterly status report.
- Responsibilities of Project Team Members
- Note: due to the nature of the tasks involved, team members should have cateditall permissions or higher.
- Monitor daily submissions. Obvious spam should be deleted.
- Update the blocklist as necessary.
- Gauge the correctness of automated assessments to make sure that filtering algorithms are operating as intended.
- Suggest new preprocessing methods.
- Contribute to the improvement of the software by beta-testing and suggesting enhancements.

- Measures of Success
- Software enhancements implemented.
- Establishment of periodic summary reports.
- Status report at the end of project, providing submission statistics as well as a summary of software development, and suggestions for future development.
- That the goal of reducing spam is being achieved. This will be evaluated by analyzing trends in the number of submissions and spam rate.

- 2005-09-04 - Make new version of the submission preprocessing software available for testing
- 2005-09-28 - Switch to new version
- 2005-10-09 - Make automated weekly reports available to the entire editing community
- 2005-11-22 - Produce quarterly report.
